Ambedkar fought against social injustice throughout his life. Discrimination he faced didn’t stop even after his death. Now also he is facing discrimination by limiting his personality to Constitution and Reservation only. To say that he was leader of Dalits only is nothing but a disgrace to his image, disgrace to the foundation of whole Nation making.
He inherited social thinking from Gautam Buddha, Periyar, Phule, Fatima Sheikh, Birsa Munda, and arranged those thoughts together, which is reflected not only in Constitution but many of his writings.
Social Justice he talked about had wide aspect:
1. He fought against hypocrisy in religion, caste, untouchability, and many more
2. Women justice: Equality in jobs opportunities and payment, women empowerment, Hindu Code Bill, Voting right, right to inheritance. He spoke “I measure the progress of community by the degree of progress which women had achieved. Let every girl who marries stand by her husband, claim to be her husband’s friend and equal, and refuse to be his slave. I am sure if you follow this advice, you will bring honour and glory to yourselves.”
3. Political thinker: Every other nation thought that India as a diversity of so many religion and ethnicity wouldn’t be one for a long time. On one hand Sardar Patel united the whole nation by negotiation, then Ambedkar kept that whole nation intact by such a wonderful Constitution.
4. Economic thinker: his writing “the Problem of Indian Rupee” became basis for establishment of RBI; helped setup Finance Commission, equal distribution of resources, opportunity, land
5. Labour justice: He changed the working hours from 12 hours to 8 hours. He also introduced several measures for workers like dearness allowance, leave benefit, employee insurance, medical leave, equal pay for equal work, minimum wages and periodic revision of scale of pay.
6. He talked about casteless and classless society.
7. He was writing Constitution in 40s and thinking about decades in advance. Such visionary and dynamic leader rarely one can witness.
Ambedkar was also first Ph.D in Economics and the first double doctorate holder in Economics in South Asia. He was also among the highest educated Indians of his generation.
